Tips for cooking lazy cabbage rolls

You can choose cabbage for lazy cabbage rolls of any size because the filling does not need to be wrapped in separate leaves. We suggest taking a small head of cabbage, even half will be enough. If there is a large head of cabbage, then cut off a quarter or focus on the amount of cabbage depending on the volume of the dish you plan.

The stewing time depends on the type of cabbage. If the cabbage is young, it will be ready almost instantly. Cabbage of late, so-called winter varieties requires longer cooking. Take a sample during the process and estimate the time slightly more or less than the recipe.

When you serve lazy cabbage rolls on the table, they can be a completely independent dish, especially together with a topping of sour cream and seasonal greens, or prepare a salad of fresh vegetables for them.

How to cook lazy cabbage rolls

Ingredients:

125 g of rice

250 ml of water

1 bulb

1 carrot

50-70 g of butter

1/2 head of white cabbage (small)

500 g of minced veal or assorted

1/2 tsp. ground coriander

400 g of tomatoes (in their own juice)

200 g sour cream

2-3 st. l. sunflower oil

salt and pepper to taste

Lazy cabbage rolls: a step-by-step recipe

We start cooking by preparing rice. Wash 125 g of groats well and pour cold water in a ratio of 1:2. Lightly salt and cook for 5 minutes after boiling with the lid closed. Remove from the heat and leave for 15 minutes to cook the rice.

At this time, prepare the rest of the ingredients. Buy ready-made minced meat from one type of meat or make an assortment. It would also be good to prepare it yourself at home, for example, from lean pork. You will need 500 g of ready-minced meat.

Cut the onion into small cubes, and grate the carrot, finely chop 1/2 of the cabbage with a knife. Melt 50-70 g of butter in a pan and fry the onion until soft and transparent. Add carrots to the pan and simmer for 3 minutes. Add shredded cabbage and simmer until the cabbage is soft for 5-7 minutes. This maneuver will make future cabbage rolls juicy and tender. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper to taste.

In a large bowl, mix the rice, minced meat, and browning. Add to the mixture 1/2 tsp. ground coriander.

Mix thoroughly and form small lazy cabbage rolls in the form of oblong cutlets or other desired configurations. Grease a ceramic baking dish with 2-3 tbsp. l. of sunflower oil and lay out the lazy cabbage rolls in one layer. Try to press them tightly to each other, because the cabbage rolls will fry and the distance between them will increase significantly.

For the sauce, pre-mix chopped tomatoes in their own juice (400 g) and 200 g of sour cream. Add salt and pepper, and mix well.

Pour the resulting mixture into a mold with lazy cabbage rolls and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
